CUBA CON-PARA 2023

I International Congress of Constitutional and Comparative Law
Havana, Cuba - April 4/7, 2023

HAVANA CITY

A tour of Havana to discover this splendid city, where Spanish baroque, French neoclassicism, North American art deco and European liberty are mixed. To visit it means observing exceptional architecture but also capturing moments and scenes of everyday life.

THE NATIONAL CAPITOL

The Capitolio Nacional, inaugurated on 8th October 1929, is a symbol of the city and one of the great buildings in the country. Its great architectural richness is based on materials of excellent quality, such as Italian marble, as well as details of walls, ceilings, doors and lamps, most of which are cast in France. It was declared a National Monument in 2010. Currently this building houses the institutional seat of the National Assembly of People's Power.

HOTEL NACIONAL

Located in the center of the Vedado district, in Havana, housed in an impressive eclectic 1930s architecture overlooking the esplanade of the Malecón, the legendary Hotel Nacional de Cuba is considered a symbol of Cuban history, culture and identity. It has been declared a National Monument and awarded the status of World Remembrance nationwide granted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

In the garden of the hotel you can still see two of the cannons of the Santa Clara battery that belonged to the defense system of Havana at the end of the Spanish colonial period and are now included, together with Old Havana, in the UNESCO World Sites list of heritage.

In its 92 years, the majestic Hotel Nacional de Cuba has witnessed some of the most important events in Cuban history that combine the republican and revolutionary phases, and also has a long list of famous guests, including Gary Cooper, Johnny Weissmuller , Buster Keaton, Erroll Flynn, the Dukes of Windsor and José Raúl Capablanca in the 1930s, Fred Astaire, Rita Hayworth, Winston Churchill, as well as Italian-American mafia bosses and Mexican movie stars such as Maria Felix, Jorge Negrete and Agustín Lara in 1940, and Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Nat King Cole and Walt Disney in the 1950s, Yuri Gagarin, Gabriel García Marquez, Jean-Paul Sartre and his wife, Fidel Castro and Ernesto "Che" Guevara in the ' 60.

THE SUPREME COURT OF HAVANA

The "Tribunal Supremo de La Habana" is the institution responsible for exercising the highest judicial authority in the Republic of Cuba and is based in Havana. Its mission is to impart justice and ensure the treatment and resolution of judicial matters in compliance with the law, a sense of fairness, rationality, timeliness, respect for the guarantees of the parties, transparency and timely and effective compliance with decisions, thus contributing to the full realization rights in the country.

THE AULA MAGNA

The Aula Magna of the University of Havana is one of the most important buildings of "La Casa de Altos Estudios de La Habana". It is a perfect square-shaped room with rock walls, decorated with Cuban wood and its walls show 7 works by the Cuban painter Armando García Menocal representing the founding faculties: Medicine, Sciences, Fine Arts, Thought, Liberal Arts, Literature and Law. Its neoclassical and baroque architecture is dazzling.
