One of the best-preserved colonial cities in the Americas. A place where time stood still in 1850.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, it was the third city founded by the Spanish crown in Cuba, by Diego Velázquez in 1514. City life revolves around Plaza Mayor, a tranquil square in the historic center, bordered by a quartet of extraordinary buildings. Strolling past the Iglesia Parroquial de la Santísima Trinidad, the tower of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís, and the beautiful gardens, immersing yourself in an ancient atmosphere.
SANTA CLARA
To relive the history of the Cuban Revolution
A key player in the final battle of the Cuban Revolution, it was also the first city to be liberated by "Che" from the Batista regime in 1958. Santa Clara is home to the Che Guevara Mausoleum, a memorial site built on a hill overlooking the city, where a flame lit by Fidel Castro on October 17, 1997, burns continuously. The mausoleum houses the remains of Che Guevara and his comrades who died in Bolivia, but the history of the Revolution is also told through memorabilia and photographs. Santa Clara is today a young and culturally vibrant city, home to Cuba's most prestigious university, after that of Havana.
